Detailed itinerary

DAY 1
You start the day by driving to the Snæfellsnes peninsula taking the Hvalfjörður scenic road insted of the tunnel. The best reason for your detour is the hidden secret of Glymur, the highest waterfall in Iceland. Hiking up the slope beside the canyon in which the waterfall hides you‘ll catch some magnificent views of it. After the stop, keep on driving to Borgarnes where you can snack up before continuing to Stykkishólmur town, stopping at preferred locations on the way. If you have time and are interested you can also take a boat tour with Seatours in the Breiðafjörður bay. They have afternoon tours for example to Flatey which departs from Stykkishólmur (not included).

DAY 2
Drive from Stykkishólmur to Bjarnarhöfn where you find the shark museum. Here you taste the peculiar and in some opinion delicious shark most Icelanders have tasted at least once in their lifetime. Hit the road again through Grundafjörður, Ólafsvík, Rif and Hellissandur towns. In Djúpalónssandur we recommend a walk and in Hellnar you find an exhibition of the National Park in Snæfellsnes and it‘s endless possiblities. You can stop to enjoy the dark and light sand beaches, nature and magnificent birdlife in the area before continuing back to Reykjavik.
